Silver Trowel Award
"This Trowell, the property of Alexandria-Washington Lodge No 22 A.F.&A.M. was used by General George Washington, September 18th 1793, to lay the Corner Stone of the Capitol of the United States of America at Washington, D.C."
The Silver Trowel Award was established in 2023 by W Bro's Andrew M. Aston, Worshipful Master and R. Dustin James, PM, Secretary and represents the Lodge's formal acknowledgment of a Brother's unwavering dedication to the overarching principles of Masonry or to the Lodge itself. It is designated as the highest award that Hampton Lodge No. 204, A.F.M. can bestow.
In every Lodge, there exist such members, who serve as the unassuming builders of our Fraternity, uniting it into a genuine Brotherhood. These individuals can be found diligently at work in various roles – in the kitchen, on work committees, as candidate mentors and coaches, as Masonic educators and lecturers, active as leaders in appendant bodies, engaged in community projects, and contributing to charitable and philanthropic organizations. Their steadfast and reliable support is extended wherever it is needed.
This honor is intended for the Brother who consistently, year after year, quietly yet actively demonstrates a profound commitment to Masonic teachings, free from any expectation of recognition or special distinctions.
The Silver Trowel Award recipient shall be selected annually by the retiring Worshipful Master and bestowed during the Annual Installation of Officers. Should the Worshipful Master elect to present the Silver Trowel Award to an officer of the Lodge, it should be reserved exclusively for acknowledgement of exceptional service surpassing the customary duties and responsibilities linked to the recipient’s respective office. In any single year, only one Silver Trowel Award should be bestowed. Nonetheless, the retiring Worshipful Master reserves the right to choose one additional recipient in the exceptional circumstance where a member’s contributions are deemed deserving of such recognition. It is not intended for this award to be presented to a non-member, as they may be recognized for their contributions by other means, i.e. a Certificate of Appreciation and / or Honorary Membership. A member may be honored with this distinction only once throughout their lifetime.
This award consists of a Replica of the George Washington Masonic Trowel used at the laying of the cornerstone of the United States Capitol Building, a certificate, and blue collarette with the jewel of a silver trowel.

…but we, as Free and Accepted Masons are taught to make use of it for the more noble and glorious purpose of spreading the cement of brotherly love and affection; that cement which unites us into one sacred band, or society of friends and brothers, among whom no contention should ever exist, but that noble contention, or rather emulation, of who best can work and best agree.
